“Sign•Age” is a collaborative public work with Nicole Tschampel installed in October 2004 in the D.U.M.B.O. neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. The piece consists of eleven industrially manufactured signs, an interactive website, and a paper map that was handed out during the 8th annual D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival. The signs mimic the format and scale of official traffic signs typically seen in New York streets. They use digital, photographic, and appropriated imagery, and text that calls up memory, fact, and fiction relating to the sites. The website contains a map where visitors can add their own stories, memories, commentary, speculation, or fantasy about the locations or signs.
